Why I do what I do

This website will give you a glimpse into my work as an artist,  community builder and activist. I have been negotiating the world through the lens of a creative entrepreneur for the last two decades. It's been a wonderful journey with a lot of learning and collaborating with people I deeply respect.
In the coming years, I believe that creative thinkers will be crucial to document, stitch, hold and present the world. We are at the very edge of collapse on one side, and of a future that can spin out into unimaginable wonders on the other. I believe we can get to the happier side by working together!

Talk Talk

April 23rd, 2008

Hey girlies, this time no pictures, but I wanted to fill you in on what I have been planning, and doing!
Have some really cool ideas about pushing my landscape of dream series where I’m trying to incorporate some mixed media. Also, incorporating a second figure into the series. I am working on building some new frames. All the same size. 24×22″. This is to give a sense of uniformity to all the pieces. I like the size, and the way it reads to me.
In the meantime I put in a couple of pieces in two shows. One in Baltimore, and the other in DC.
The first one was really a silent auction. This is so that I can build my resume and start to look good on paper! Definitely suggest it to you girls as galleries look for this type of thing – at least thats what I’m thinking.
Another big project that I’m working on – thats really taking all my time right now is murals.
I’ve decided to expand into that as it seems like a natural evolution and its another way of living and working with art.
I’m working on the idea of doing murals for residences and businesses. For now, I’m working on some ideas for my own place. I will post pictures as they come along.
The concept and initial drawing is taking up most of the time. As its a new venture I’m taking it one step at a time and being really slow with it. Once I have the drawing done, it should be full steam ahead!
Anyway thats my world of art right now. Two big murals for my house. its a grand project – one that I’m super excited about.
Arch, thanks for your feedback on murals from your own experience.
Will post next week to share with you whats come along, and what is coming along.

  • Sounds great! Cant wait to see the pics!!

I have been in a crazy metamorphosis phase the last couple of weeks. Got hold of some software (Final Cut Pro) that I have been dying to use. The learning curve is steep and Im stuck to my laptop all friggin day. I soooo miss painting.

I have been pushing my website in prettier directions – go see and and let me know what you think – Been learning some CSS (coding lang) to get that cleaned up! Gah!!

So the big push now is to make these animation film clips and then play with them in Arkaos as performance video art…

some vague idea of doing an exhibition with these pieces and my poetry book is forming in my head…perhaps in a month.

  • this learning and learning is sometimes draining, but fun too! lets hope something good comes out of it all.

and yea i agree – it is time to be included in some group shows etc…but i seem to not have enough decent work to get out there…so i suppose it will take some months more for me. well done on the two show you!!

  • hey. the good thing about group shows is that you only need a piece or two as the show is not relying strictly on your work. but yes, we do need to produce – you and i both!it will fall into place. lets think positive!
good for you learning all that code to better your website. i’ll check it out.

  • hey cool stuff happening on the website. i love that it has sampling and colour on the intro page. much more interesting. also love the “logo” archanaprasad among the lotuses. good stuff. hey- your resume is crazy impressive!!

  • pooj – super sweet you are! Thanks for the kind words on the website and my resume 😀 i do have fun tinkering with my site…its kinda addictive for the geek in me.

how the mural scene going. im trying really hard to tie up the Three painting…its really tough to know when and how to do that. I have realised that when i start a painting its full steam ahead…and then finishing it is like an inch an hour – snail pace. wonder why that is…

juat got in early this morning from Manipal. Had a VJ gig there with Lounge Piranha at a pub called Enigma. It was fun, and really heartening that the ppl there really tripped out on the visuals. Lounge Piranha seem to have a pretty strong fan base there apparently. but boy was it a long and tough bus ride to there and back!!!

K off i go to get cracking on the painting. Will post up some progress images later tonight yeah.

  • and heeheehee that header on my website with the lotuses and my name is a frame from the animtion that i posted in. i coloured in the lotuses for the ani. its also my visiting card…i guess i really needed to make one and i had been pushing it off for a while, so i put something together rather quickly – thought the lotuses theme made sense to my current series…

  • very cool. i need to work on a business card. i had worked on one, and then i was told that it would be expensive as its got so much colour and shape in the background!
hows the three painting coming along?
i feel the same way about my work. but take a minute because it just means that the piece has stopped talking to you. also, could be that you’ve made it so precious that you’re scared to touch it and take it to the next level to finish it of.
