Why I do what I do

This website will give you a glimpse into my work as an artist,  community builder and activist. I have been negotiating the world through the lens of a creative entrepreneur for the last two decades. It's been a wonderful journey with a lot of learning and collaborating with people I deeply respect.
In the coming years, I believe that creative thinkers will be crucial to document, stitch, hold and present the world. We are at the very edge of collapse on one side, and of a future that can spin out into unimaginable wonders on the other. I believe we can get to the happier side by working together!

‘If the Butterfly is God’

May 28th, 2008
This painting is a part of a series of works I am doing… I am intrigued by passing thoughts and metaphors. I strive to connect universal ideas to my individual taste as themes in my work. Subjects like the sun and moon to simple beings like butterflies and flowers excite me. I am amazed by their multiple hues and their freedom of existence. I also realise these instances can be achieved only when there are no complexities.
I have constructed an optimistic view of life which has enabled me to gather upon the various simple pleasures around me. Through various phases in my life, I have realised that if we search within ourselves, we discover we are essentially ‘child-like’. For me, the translation of ideas stemming from ones imagination to an external world through painting is itself very fascinating. So this painting is my imagination and play. The media is emulsion and acrylic on canvas.

  • this medium is really interesting. i like the texture and ‘silkyness’ it produces…hmmm…i am really tempted to experiment with that sometime.
your little note about exploring the ‘child-like’ nature of life and looking at an optimistic and almost utopian world seems accurate (you do sound like an art-critic when you write sometimes heeheehee…) to what your work says to me. stick with it girl! i think you’re on an interesting road.

  • well, i already said i love this piece. love everything about it. colours, construction..
i like the concepts that you’re exploring. it seems noble, and beautiful. i do get lost in your hi funda art talk though! hee hee hee. yes arch, very art critic like! thats our sweet nirodh. constantly amazes me – seriously!! how wonderful and talented you both are!! some great, serious work, exploring beautiful issues.

  • he he, yes girls, the writing is a part of the artist statement I wrote while doing this painting…
Now, I feel with no definate direction, I am finally getting some focus… Its so satisfying…
