Why I do what I do

This website will give you a glimpse into my work as an artist,  community builder and activist. I have been negotiating the world through the lens of a creative entrepreneur for the last two decades. It's been a wonderful journey with a lot of learning and collaborating with people I deeply respect.
In the coming years, I believe that creative thinkers will be crucial to document, stitch, hold and present the world. We are at the very edge of collapse on one side, and of a future that can spin out into unimaginable wonders on the other. I believe we can get to the happier side by working together!

Girls, the show at Naples went off really well. There is something to be said for validation from fellow human beings on ones work. As requested – pics galore were taken for the 3For blog.
The red walls and orange drapes of the gallery seems like the perfect backdrop for my work. I basically used 2 mobile constructions made of metal wire and clips and used the window inset to frame them. additionally I used nylon wires and standard metal binder clips to ‘hang’ sketches against the wall.
Over all I really liked the way it all worked out. The beautiful Naples light filtered in through the orange translucent drapes onto my work while the gentle wind kept it constantly rotating and animated. The static sketches against the red wall looked rather dramatic and very ‘designed’ too.
Though the gallery did not have a projector, they did give me a computer on which I had my video art on the Snakes and Lotuses series playing.
The good news is that this gallery and one other (the curator happened to pop into this show) are interested to have more shows of my work…will have to see if all that comes through, but it certainly felt great to know that they were interested.
Now Berlin beckons. I am living with some friends in the East. Its amazing…really choc-a-bloc full of creative people. Have set up a collaboration with an underground poetry movement here called Brotnkunst V. It literally translates to BreadArt. The idea is that each poet has a colour specific to them. They then go about Berlin pasting up sheets of their poems on paper that is of their signature colour. So tomorrow we will go about posting my poems all over. I am excited!! O and of course my chosen colour is pink 😀 I will also post up german work in Blore when I get back. Now girls, I think a 3For movement should happen right here in Berlin!! What say? :)

  • cool cool cool! great stuff. i love the feel of the show – what your ideas are. would have loved to see what the show looked like in person.
so the walls worked well for the show? in the pics, i was a bit worried that they would overpower the sensitivity of your work. seeing that your work is black and white and so sensitive and fragile.
the poetry stuff sounds great. so cool that you’re immersing yourself so thoroughly in art, and all aspects of art. checked out babajob/arcna. very nice.
show in berlin with 3 for sounds magnificent. where to start?!
looking forward to more pictures, and more good news, and more great things!!

  • I guess then that the sketches were dramatically framed in all that red and the paper whites shone in contrast. Perhaps this is an indicator that a coloured bg is better for these types of work. perhaps at a longer showing, it might be interesting to try a more neutral natural mustard, lotus pink or even a charcoal gray.
:) thanks for going to my scrap-book blog. it was the easiest way for me to tell everyone my travel thoughts.
Well i guess i have made the first steps towards a show here in berlin for 3For. The gallery I am presenting at would surely be interested. my concern is more about the shipping. but when the time comes to exhibit, we could each hop on a plane and carry them with us as baggage…as long as we each have a small no. and watch the weight it could work out as check-in. that way we get to be at the showings too na. so a round trip from india to MA and back via europe might be workable with you meeting us here. hmm i can really see it1
Here’s a secret – if we dream it, it will happen. just need to align and crystallize the vision heheehee. and man will it be fun to wander europe with art and the 3for brat pack :) lets do it!!!

  • wow! sounds so awesome. I’m all in. when should we do this? should we have a show in maryland too? i can ask around for getting some space.

  • Arcus, I am so glad that your sketches are getting the due credit they deserve.
Also I am trying to picturise a bright red background with light seeming through. Did it take the focus from the sketches?
Bway, went through your travelogue on babajob… you going places baby…
I have been to Berlin and know how wonderfully fabulous it is.. I still go on raving about how its the best I’ve ever seen.
Hey, is Dennis the same who we met in Infinitea??
A 3For expedition seems utopian… and thats what art is about to create it!!
How did Berlin love it and you???
    Put more more with photos
