Why I do what I do

This website will give you a glimpse into my work as an artist,  community builder and activist. I have been negotiating the world through the lens of a creative entrepreneur for the last two decades. It's been a wonderful journey with a lot of learning and collaborating with people I deeply respect.
In the coming years, I believe that creative thinkers will be crucial to document, stitch, hold and present the world. We are at the very edge of collapse on one side, and of a future that can spin out into unimaginable wonders on the other. I believe we can get to the happier side by working together!

3FOR Show anyone?

September 23rd, 2008

Hey ladies!

So is it time for our travelling show?? I was thinking lets start planning something for mid february. Does that work for you all? I need to book my tkt accordingly. I thought that i could probably find a good price then, and i think its a good time for exhibitions.
Right now, I am busy with getting stuff together for my New York show, but come November I will be buckling down to do some new work for 3For.
Shall we start thinking about this show? Throw out some ideas of what we’re going to do, how we’re going to bring it together?
My thoughts on this end are: I’m thinking of a series of smaller pieces -as I have to think about shipping. Maybe ten pieces. i’m still thinking about series ideas..
I also think we should try and have some common elements in all our works.
Cities: Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta?? Once we kick off, we can branch out into other cities/countries.
Funding: I think we need to do this one on our own. Lets write out a list, make a budget for all the things we will need to do.
I think its important to do this on our own, because we want to do our first show ourselves, get it off the ground, and show that we’re serious about not only our work, but this great concept of making art, and connecting across continents.
After that, we can possibly go bigger with 3For and incorporate more artists. Art across boundaries, and such.
What say ladies?

  • hey poojie, why did u leave Baroda from the list, it would be great to have a show here. As of now, mid Feb sounds good. How many works do you think each of us should do? I might want to do big works, then I guess accordingly we can reduce to number of works. About a common element…Do you think its a good idea to have a Rachana connection for our first show?? And maybe, if we have a strong concept note/proposal, we can work out some funding… what say Arcna?? u r pro at it, right???

  • i’m game about the rachna element. that is what brought us together. any ideas????
i am thinking small works for me. so maybe ten?i dont know!! right now i’m super confused!!

  • girls! great to see some action online at 3For! Sorry I was out traveling with 0 access to the internet till this morning.

ok here are my thoughts on the travel exhibition:
I think the size of the work should depend on the artist. I agree with Pooj – the smaller the format the cheaper and easier to transport. That said, if its really big perhaps we should think of opts where we take it off the frame and exhibit it simply hung?

lets keep the overheads as low as possible.

Regards the funding part. I certainly think we can approach IFA or some such. but before we go there, lets do the whole exercise of budgeting and planning. we will need this info when we approach for funding anyways. I also think that we can dip into family supp for funding. that way we maintain autonomy and independence – which is what I think Pooj is gunning for.
Anyways funding is the least of our concerns. We should make it happen in the most kick-ass way possible regardless.

Feb seems perfect for me. Regards the cities – lets figure out which ones are welcoming to us. Baroda is of course on the charter, I guess P was just making a laundry list as such. i have contacts of galleries in Blore, Hyde, Kolkata for sure and we can get in there if we approach them early on. Bombay, delhi are the tough cookies…who can push these??

Rachna element is a great idea. why dont we work on a theme that is broad enough to encompass her and us? something like Lost and Found, Loss…Regained or somesuch?

  • yes yes! lets get it going. still thinking of ideas for the show..
