Why I do what I do

This website will give you a glimpse into my work as an artist,  community builder and activist. I have been negotiating the world through the lens of a creative entrepreneur for the last two decades. It's been a wonderful journey with a lot of learning and collaborating with people I deeply respect.
In the coming years, I believe that creative thinkers will be crucial to document, stitch, hold and present the world. We are at the very edge of collapse on one side, and of a future that can spin out into unimaginable wonders on the other. I believe we can get to the happier side by working together!

Natural Objects

Sunflowers at Night

I am posting images of two other works of mine… which are on the same lines. They are smaller in size. Sunflowers at night is 3 x 3 feet and natural objects is 2 x 3 feet.I have realised that after doing bigger works, these works are relatively simpler and faster. These works have the similar treatment of using emulsion paint flowing… then the forms in oil. I guess for the upcoming show, I want to do these size works… but lets see how things go.The works are in process, and I am posting images

  • Nirodh! Natural Objects is commendable :) I think its a bit of a break away from the flower-scapes while still retaining their spirit. Whats super nice about it is that it seems to tie in you earlier object studies with your interest in nature and organic forms.

With Sunflowers at Night, my one crib is that the ‘moon’ seems to be a bit too stiff and disturbing to the overall harmony.

Perhaps you should work on that to intergrate it into the work more smoothly? Thoughts?

And yeah, changing sizes is liberating and creates flow and ease somehow…funnily I felt that when I scaled from A4 (notebook) size to a large 10×12 ft wall…

  • hey arcna… Exactly, its the moon, I want to change. thats the main reason, the work is incomplete!!
I have also started another bigger size work (about 6 x 6)
I shall post images and all soon
Big size is always more involving, as the entire body is at work.
But I dont want to break away from creating smaller works, as I feel all dimensions have their distinct characteristic…

  • good stuff nirali. i think its great how you just get to work.
arch what are your pieces like? please share. i myself am desperately in need of inspiration. i need to get cracking to have this work shipped out!!
the canvas tech i was talking about is, really using sizing and then ground. basically you sand till its super smooth. check out gamblin’s website. they have a lot of info on their products that explains how to use them ( the process).
let me know if you have questions after that.
