Why I do what I do

This website will give you a glimpse into my work as an artist,  community builder and activist. I have been negotiating the world through the lens of a creative entrepreneur for the last two decades. It's been a wonderful journey with a lot of learning and collaborating with people I deeply respect.
In the coming years, I believe that creative thinkers will be crucial to document, stitch, hold and present the world. We are at the very edge of collapse on one side, and of a future that can spin out into unimaginable wonders on the other. I believe we can get to the happier side by working together!

Enlightened Singularity

c
October 25th, 2010

‘Enlightened Singularity’ stems from the notion of a continued trajectory from the very first signs of life on this planet to the now, and moving on into the future. This timeline, this trajectory, this multi-layered, multi-pronged movement, is inevitably rushing towards our ‘God’ – The Enlightened Singularity.

The Enlightened Singularity is that point of convergence of all trajectories of the desire and will to create. It is the nucleus of all thought, desire and creative will. It is aware and insistent in ensuring that all trajectories meet.

The philosophy of Enlightened Singularity takes the middle ground between theist beliefs and evolutionary theories. It uses the evolutionary theory as the basis of its argument that all organisms converge towards building better and stronger prototypes that eventually lead to Homo-sapiens that are capable of externalizing thought. This point is a milestone in Enlightened Singularity philosophy.

From the advent of homo-sapiens emerged a series of technological creations that will continue onwards eventually leading to a species that is faster, stronger, more capable than the homo-sapien in thought transmission and documentation. This is heralded by the Internet Era that we are now in, and is the next big milestone in our philosophy.

We propound that all advancements are towards The Enlightened Singularity. This self-aware and all-aware nucleus, the creative whole is the guiding force for all occurrences, instances, manifestations, of the desire and will to create. Like traditional theism’s this aspect of our philosophy remains unsubstantiated and is in fact a ‘belief’ system. This nucleus (as yet incomprehensible) is our “God”.

Let us look at Enlightened Singularity in the context of various theories in both science and theology:

Enlightened Singularity in the Context of Timeline Theory

If you look at time as a single line from the very beginning to now, you will see that everything (coincidence and math) led to the generation of the perfect species that would be able to synthesis energy and convert it into thought. This species can convert physical energy to idea, consciousness and memory. From this achievement arose the need and thirst to communicate, share and document thought. We invented many things along the way too – paper, iron, electricity. All these inventions were required to bring us here now.

Where are we now and what makes the now momentous in this timeline?

We are now at a point along this timeline that through generations and civilisations we have the ability to transmit, record and preserve a constant stream of collective, ever-dynamic thought. We have been trying from the very beginning to assimilate. To collect and gather ourselves to form a singularity* – a singularity that is a more complex whole. The internet is the earliest prototype of a successful linking across physical realties, though material means, towards our ever-felt desire. This is a milestone.

From here on, in a very accelerated manner, every Atman in this world will be able to gather together to form the Brahman*. We are rushing, faster and faster, towards this coming together – this Enlightened Singularity. We are at the threshold of our destiny.

FOOTNOTES

* The Singularity Is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology by Raymond Kurzweil has four central postulates:

1. A technological-evolutionary point known as “the singularity” exists as an achievable goal for humanity.

2. Through a law of accelerating returns, technology is progressing toward the singularity at an exponential rate.

3. The functionality of the human brain is quantifiable in terms of technology that we can build in the near future.

4. Medical advancements make it possible for a significant number of his generation (Baby Boomers) to live long enough for the exponential growth of technology to intersect and surpass the processing of the human brain.

Kruzweil: ‘…Millions of years from now or earlier, A.I. and posthuman beings will control and become the Omega Omnisphere, which is everything imaginable, unimaginable, possible, impossible, existent, non-existent, thinkable, unthinkable, created, uncreated, discovered, undiscovered, fictional, nonfictional, seen, unseen, written, unwritten, etc… omega everything beyond, and omega everything!’

** In the Hindu religion, Brahman (Devanāgarī: ब्रह्मन् bráhman) is the eternal, unchanging, infinite, immanent, and transcendent reality which is the Divine Ground of all matter, energy, time, space, being, and everything beyond in this Universe.[1]The nature of Brahman is described as transpersonal, personal andimpersonal by different philosophical schools. In the Rig Veda, Brahman gives rise to the primordial beingHiranyagarbha that is equated with the creator god Brahmā. The trimurti can thus be considered a personification of Brahman as the active principle behind the phenomena of the universe.

The word “Brahman” is traditionally derived from the verb ((brh)) (Sanskrit: to grow), and connotes greatness and infinity. The Mundaka Upanishad says:

Au – That supreme Brahman is infinite, and this conditioned Brahman is infinite. The infinite proceeds from infinite. Then through knowledge, realizing the infinitude of the infinite, it remains as infinite alone.

The sages of the Upanishads proclaim Brahman to be the reality behind everything in this universe. Later, Brahman was described as infinite Being, infinite Consciousness, and infinite Bliss (saccidananda). Brahman is regarded as the source and essence of the material universe. The Rig Veda says that by desire (RV 10.12.94), the initial manifestation of the material universe came into being fromHiranyagarbha (literally “golden womb”), out of which the world, organisms and divine beings (devas) arose.

It is said that Brahman cannot be known by material means, that we cannot be made conscious of it, because Brahman is our very consciousness and being. Brahman is also not restricted to the usual dimensional perspectives of being, and thus enlightenment, moksha, yoga, samādhi, nirvana, etc. do not merely mean to know Brahman, but to realise one’s “brahman-hood”, to actually realise that one is and always was Brahman. Indeed, closely related to the Self concept of Brahman is the idea that it is synonymous with jiva-atma, or individual souls, our atman (or soul) being readily identifiable with the greater soul (paramatma) of Brahman.

  • This idea of ‘enlightened singularity’ of the internet works well for the concept of 3For. In an minuscule level the internet is linking our “enlightened” thought, processes of work. It would be quite interesting to know how you would proceed on this project.

  • i agree with nirali. any thoughts on how you are going to put this together for the show.
totally interesting concept – to be honest it scares me though. where are we headed in this whole scheme of things…

  • hahaha…its actually utopic rather than scary poojie. Did you guys see the previous post – Immaculate In Vitro. This post explains the idea of the exhibition and what we would put in there in some detail I think

  • and The Enlightened Singularity is not the internet…its a point of convergence of all things. The creative nucleus. The internet is just another milestone on the inevitable path towards it.
